Ancient history I know but the Camera Raw plugin in my Photoshop CS2 is the only convertor I have found to properly convert (including metadata) the SR2 files to PSD from my Sony DSC-R1 camera.
It is a nuisance to have use it via CS2 everytime. Is there a standalone version?

Not sure about CS2, but with later versions you can use it directly via the Bridge application.
There’s also Lightroom, which uses the same internal conversion algorithms and may provide you functionality you prefer.
