hi,

How can I make panels float (like a portal) with buttons to
max and min it.|||
I think one of the following links should help:

thanks for the links. But I was hoping you’d have a different
answer.

I mean I was hoping that Flex would simply provide this type
of functionality right out of the box, as part of a Canvas’ or
Panel’s property/attribute capability, rather than having to
customize it. I know there are smart people out there who can whiz
this stuff up, but not all of us can or want to code this. Its
basic infrastructure code, and should not be something application
developers should be involved with- its really just basic
functionality and part of any windowing framework. Flex is pushing
version 3, so is it being planned this release? I looked at the
roadmap and see no mention of incorporating it – unless I missed
it.

Have you looked at TitleWindow? That might provide what
you’re looking for.

I don’t think this is being planned for Flex 3. Feel free to
file it as an enhancement request at
http://bugs.adobe.com/flex/.
There’s a community voting process, so if a lot of people feel it
will be important, it can be prioritized.

In general, I think we try to support what we think are the
most common/popular scenarios “out of the box”, but support many
other scenarios through subclassing. I don’t think there’s anything
wrong with using other people’s components in your application code
if there are no licensing restrictions and the code meets your
needs.|||
Wietse’s extension is really nice, but I agree with paconyc99
that floating toolbox-style panels should be a core feature – this
is exactly the kind of thing that is used in 99% of desktop
applications, which Flex is meant to be used for when building
equivalents in Flash. I want to see full docking, snapping,
grouping etc :)
