hi … i have a mulit-layered PS CS3 file that i’m opening up
and slicing in Fireworks (studio 8). ideally – i would like to open
up a second PS file (similar to the first, but with other photos /
text/ / navigation) and apply the same slices from the first file
(framework is the same size). is there a way to easily “save” the
slices / guides from one document and apply them to other
documents? THANKS! emily

Well if you are in Fireworks, you can just select the slices
and

copy/paste them to a new document.

If you need this slicing scenario on hand at a later date.
just delete

the images in the file and save it with a new name. Then when
you reopen

the “slice file” you can again, just copy/paste to the new PS
file.

You can’t copy and paste guides, but if you drag them into
position in a

continuous series of steps, you can open the History panel,
select the

Add Guides steps and save them as a custom command. Open your
new

document and go to Commands > (your command) and apply it
to the new

document.

You’re quite welcome. I’m sure the integration between FW and
PS will

continue to improve, but in the meantime, it’s nice to have
some

workarounds.

Once you get more comfortable with FW, I think you will find
you work

faster. I do all my web design in FW right from the start,
and that

could help you as well, so you’re not fighting with
integration issues

between the two apps. But it will take you a little time to
get used to it.
