Ways of enlarging a thumbprint image
Hi All,
Could someone clever please look at the following URL:
When one clicks on the images, a screen sized version appears
on the
left of a blank screen.
I created this effect by simply linking the small image to
the large
image. I would like to improve on this.
I do not like the fact that, with the present method, the
large image is
not centered. The only way ***I know of*** to achieve that
would be to
create an html page for each, centre the image on the html
page, and
link the small image to the corresponding html page.
Creating the extra html pages is rather time consuming when
many images
are involved (as is usually the case with me).
Can anyone suggest a simpler way of giving website visitors
access to
large images when clicking on a thumbprint.
I have tried Project Seven’s Gallery Magic but do not like
that fact
that with Gallery Magic the thumbprints take up so much space
that the
large image either is not very large, or the visitor has to
scroll in
order to see a screen sized large image.
I resize the large image to a maximum with of 750 x 480 px,
so that they
fit onto the screen without scrolling.
btw I am not, at this stage, keen on doing anything with
Flash.
What do you think?
Thanks.

One option:

Not sure if I really follow this.
I find IGM offers a compact, space efficient method for
presenting a series
of images.
Thumbnails and large images can be set to whatever size you
prefer.

Hi John,
Thank you for giving me that link. I will try it out.
Concerning P7 Gallery Magic – perhaps I am not using it
properly (I have
to read the Manual completely, I suppose). Visitors to many
sites,
especially a photographer’s site, want to see the images not
only
recognisably large, but as large as possible, i.e. filling
the screen,
say 766 x 480 px.
In Gallery Magic, since the large image appears on the same
screen as
the thumbprint, the large image has to be smaller than full
screen, and
the visitor will have to scroll to bring the large image up
to fill the
screen (will letting the thumbprints etc disappear on top).
Is that clearer?
Now is there a facility in GM which I have overlooked or am
using
incorrectly.
Thanks for your help, and have a nice Sunday.

Must admit I never expect large images to be full screen,
even on a
photographers site. Makes navigation awkward for me when I
want to jump from
thumb to thumb.
The thumbnails you have on
http://www.akdstudio.co.uk/
would be fine as
large images for me. 50x50px or 100x100px thumbs work fine.
I look for a balance between navigating thumbs and viewing
large images so I
can see enough detail.
e.g. I find the example at
http://www.projectseven.com/products/galleries/hgmagic/insert.htm
works
fine.

I think so.
If you’re aiming for the large image to be full screen,
Lightbox may be a
better option but that has limitations such as quickly
scrolling from large
image to large image is cumbersome.
